Lake Creek Rd: Lake Creek Canyon offers a variety of recreational opportunities. This is a popular spot for locals to walk dogs in both summer and winter. There are no developed camping facilities in the canyon, but dispersed camping is allowed (3 day limit below corrals, 16 day limit above).
To get to the Lake Creek Road go north of Ketchum for about 3.5 miles. The road heads north from the highway and is a paved route as it travels though a subdivision. Travel slowly and safely through the subdivision please. The pavement ends at a cul-de-sac. Here, the road turns to dirt as it passes the Forest Service boundary.
Lake Creek Lakes: This site has limited facilities (parking, toilet, picnic benches). It is a great place to take the kids for a picnic and fishing.
Mountain Biking: Depending on seasonal conditions, the Lake Creek Road can be a pretty good option for a mellow mountain bike ride. Keep in mind that after the road is freshly graded it can be rough with loose rocks. Some traffic often improves conditions, but the road surface can also deteriorate late in the season. Portions of the road get rather steep as it climbs past the lake, but some people enjoy cycling up into this more demanding terrain.
Mining History: The headwaters of Lake Creek saw significant mining activity in the early 1900s. The three main sites were the Lake Creek Group, Homestake Mine, and Auburn Group. You could easily spend an afternoon driving and walking to these sites.
