Warm Springs Driveway Trail #084: This trail is about 6 miles long. On its high end it connects with the Middle Fork Warm Springs Trail. On its south end it meets up with Little Smoky Road (FS Road 015).
If you are descending on this route, after about 3.5 miles you will come to an intersection where the singletrack meets a two-track trail at an open saddle. To the left a singletrack leads over to the east side of the ridge and into dense evergreen woods. This singletrack dead ends in the trees. To stay on the Driveway Trail 084, keep right and on the westside of the drainage at the saddle. This will have you dropping down through primarily open hillsides as you make your way toward Little Smoky Road.
The route is used primarily as a driveway for trailing bands of sheep into forest allotments. Most sheep traffic on this trail is in the spring and fall. In the summer the bands of sheep are generally higher up and further in. This area is also grazed by cattle that are owned by ranchers who have allotments on the Sawtooth National Forest, Fairfield Ranger District.
The Warm Springs Driveway Trail starts from a high, unsigned intersection, where it meets the Middle Fork Warm Springs Trail. (Note: The intersection of the trails, at the high end of the Warm Springs Driveway Trail, is indistinct. It is in an area of exposed bedrock where the trails are faint.) From its high start, the #084 trail follows a ridge-line, in a southerly direction. The trail is narrow and very demanding in places. It includes a lot of very steep and rugged ups and downs. Much of the trail is littered with loose rocks or is otherwise technically demanding. Other sections are smooth singletrack, but those are not as common as the more demanding features the path offers up.
The Warm Springs Driveway Trail traverses a fair number of different landscapes, from exposed and rocky ridges, to grassy meadows, to sections through wooded areas. There are good views along the way.
