From Galena Lodge, follow the road that passes behind the lodge and stay right to head uphill to the southeast. Once you crest the first hill, and start to descend on the road, look right for a trail branching off sharply to the right. Take this trail marked with a sign pointing to Galena View Loop. Take it downhill to cross another dirt two-track road before quickly coming to a footbridge over Senate Creek. This will bring you to the loop portion of the trail.
The trail is open to two-way traffic, so watch for others who may be approaching from the other direction. The loop is about the same difficulty in both directions, and each way has its own fun section of downhill that leads back to the bottom, and a return to the lodge. Or use this trail as one leg of a longer Galena outing.
The Galena View Loop was the first trails to be opened in the summer of 2014, as part of the Galena Summer Trails construction projects. That project continued during the summers of 2015 and 2016, culminating in a network of trails that is about 50 miles long. The system includes beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain arranged in a stacked-loop system. That is, the loops closer in to the lodge are easier, and generally speaking, the going gets more demanding as you get further out into the network
The trails at Galena are open to non-motorized uses including hiking, mountain biking, trail running and equestrian use. The trails help us all enjoy and celebrate the unique history, ecology and recreational value of the Galena area.
To get to Galena Lodge follow Highway 75 north from Ketchum for about 24 miles. The lodge is on the right as you are climbing up. If you are coming from Stanley or other points north, drop over Galena Summit and the lodge will be about 6 miles down on the left.
