STANDALONE TRAIL MAP
GENERAL COMMENTS: July 25
Even though we are entering our last week of July, we have plenty of time left on our trails. Get out there and enjoy them! Keep an eye out for trail updates on Summer Trailink as there is a bit of trail work coming up.

BCRD will be doing some patch work today on the WRT just north of Buttercup. Please slowdown in the work area and walk around. The trail crew will be patching areas where roots have pushed up into the path.

The BCRD has scheduled a section of the Wood River Trail for seal coat maintenance beginning Monday, July 28 and continuing through Friday, August 1. The project encompasses the section of path from the north side of Fox Acres Rd. to the south side of Ohio Gulch Rd. This section of trail will be closed during the seal coating process. Alternate routes may not be suitable for road bikes, rollerblades, bike trailers, and dogs or for nighttime travel.
Seal coating is the process of applying an asphalt emulsion to seal the trail surface. After several years of regular use and the elements, the worn asphalt surface will roughen and crack. In order to preserve the trail’s smooth surface, it must be seal coated regularly. During the application and drying process it is important that trail users stay off the new surface for 48 hours. Wet seal coating material will ruin shoes, clothes, bikes, rollerblades and the trail surface!
BLM recently performed trail maintenance on Slaughterhouse’s Belle South and Vue 1.0 trails. This included cutting back plants encroaching on the trail. This is an occasional piece of preventative maintenance that helps keep our trails in good shape and usable for years to come.
Trails are very dry, especially in our south valley. If you are on a bike or moto, this is the time to slow down and use caution. A user has reported the need for extra caution on sections of the Croy trail system, notable on the downhill portion of Bull Dog towards Bullion Rd. When in doubt slow down and keep the rubber side down!
Bald Mountain lift operations have begun along with lift assist biking. Check the Sun Valley app or Sun Valley Company's website for more lift and trail information.
Ketchum Ranger District/Wood River Trails Coalition report most of the front country trails are open and cut out.
Any trail labeled as partially open (yellow), is available for use if and when conditions allow. Though these trails may not have been cleared of deadfall yet, so plan on possibly needing to navigate over down trees.
July 16th the Forest Service reported sheep moving throughout the valley and on grazing allotments. Click "more details" below for a more detailed sheep report.
Wildlife is present. For information on recommended best practices when wildlife or sheep are encountered, visit this site's Trail Alerts Section.
As you head out for your trail adventures, feel free to report anything you see that you think should be shared. Email me, the BCRD Trails Coordinator, Ashley Knox at aknox@brcd.org.
Enjoy the trails!
Sheep are in the valley. Check the Trailink map for current reported sheep locations. Expect sheep on the Wood River Trail and on the sheep driveway in the next week as they are moving north to their allotments. Keep in mind land managers do their best to provide accurate sheep locations, however, consider these locations and dates as a suggestion of where the sheep will be Always stay aware of your surroundings.

Let's not forget our manners and trail etiquette no matter where we are or how we recreate. A quick reminder- bikers yield to hikers, and hikers and bikers yield to horses, then downhill yields to uphill. If in doubt, just yield to each other and meet someone new while you talk about how lucky we are to be in such an amazing place. Bottom line is to be kind to each other and enjoy being out on the trails.

Continue to look to this site for up-to-date trail info. Please be aware of changing conditions and considerate of trail conditions when you head out for your adventures.
